Fugitive financier Low Taek Jho or better known as Jho Low was reported to be currently being investigated by the US Justice Department (DoJ) if he had any part in financing United State’s President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign.
A Wall Street Journal (WSJ) had alleged that the probe for over a USD 100,000 contribution is believed to be made through a person named Larry Davis in 2017 to the Trump campaign for the 2020 presidential election.
Trump Victory was alleged by WSJ to have received the USD 100,000 from Larry Davis, a US citizen who co-owns Hawaii based investment company LNS Capital. The investment company was said to have received transfers amounting to USD 1.5 million that was said to originate from Jho Low before Davis’ donation to Trump Victory.
WSJ had said that in an email that was mistakenly sent to them had Low denying any knowledge of Davis or the donation. Jho Low had sent a follow-up email minutes later asking to ignore the email as it was meant for his lawyers.
The DoJ investigation into Jho Low is said to be over his part in the 1MDB global corruption scandal, with this portion of the investigation is into alleged attempts by Low to dissuade the US from continuing its investigation against him and for aid for wealthy dissident attempting to seek political asylum in the US to be extradited to Beijing.
“Mr Low has never entered into any agreement and/or paid (or authorised payment of) any money to the entities referred to in the Wall Street Journal article as supposedly having made political donations.
“Indeed, Mr Low had never heard of LNS or Larry Davis until referenced by the Wall Street Journal. It is disappointing that the Wall Street Journal chose to ignore legal privilege and publish an email that was clearly sent in error,” Jho Low’s lawyers was reported to have release a statement saying.
The Republican National Committee spokeswoman Cassie Smedile was reported by CNBC to have released the following statement;
“Trump Victory does not accept contributions from corporations or foreign nationals in accordance with the law. We vehemently deny any wrongdoing on the part of the RNC or Trump Campaign.”
Under US Law, it is a crime for foreign individuals or companies to make direct or indirect donations to US politicians to prevent foreign interference in US politics.
